My recent paintings investigate how place is constructed through visual and spatial systems—examining how built forms, image-making, and design languages shape our understanding of environments, ecologies, and the ideals we project onto them.
Drawing from Brazilian modernist architecture, tourism marketing, and social media aesthetics, the paintings interrogate the mechanisms through which environments are idealized, designed, and marketed—from commodification to utopian promise to ecological crisis.
Employing post-internet aesthetics, these paintings use the hyperreal to question the authenticity of visual experience. Embedded within these frameworks are endangered Amazonian species and at-risk flora, creating subtle tensions between marketed fantasy and ecological fragility.
Growing up on an island in southern Brazil shaped my attention to liminal spaces—the fluid boundaries between water and land, built and natural environments—and how landscapes are constructed through cultural perspective: what gets elevated, what gets erased, whose vision prevails.
